Rus Brown

Instructor, Program Director & Assistant Fire Chief, FVFD
Rus was born and raised in Southern Oregon and has been a Humboldt County resident since 1980. Rus has four children with two of them grown and the last 2 twins that are in high school. Rus has been involved in safety for more than half his life. Rus decided to help his community in 1984 by joining the Fortuna Volunteer Fire Dept and has been a firefighter ever since. In those 26 yrs Rus has progressed from a firefighter to Lieutenant, Captain and since 2001 has served as Asst Chief in charge of training. Rus has been an EMT for many of those 26 years. For a career Rus started out working in the local sawmills and was asked to serve on the Safety Committee which led to a full time position as Safety Director then Corporate Safety Manager. In 2000 Rus decided to leave the timber industry and become a Safety Consultant and went to work for the Northern California Safety Consortium. Rus has made NCSC one of the most respected safety consulting firms in Northern California. Rus’s experience and teaching style have been described as “dynamic” and “straight to the point” and is often told “that was the best safety training that they have ever had”. For fun Rus likes anything that allows him to spend time with his family especially if that activity is deer hunting.
